Kulturspielraum Theatre develops theatre projects with young people on issues that matter in society. The projects create a space in which young people can express their own questions, experiences and attitudes artistically. Out of shared rehearsals, improvisations and scenic work come performances that make different voices visible.
The team combines artistic leadership, direction and theatre-education support.
Artistic direction and concept
Monika Groth takes care of the concept and the artistic direction of the projects. She sets the thematic frame and the first impulses.
The young people bring in their own perspectives, experiences and questions about society and develop short scenes, dialogues and scenic miniatures out of them.
During the rehearsal process Monika Groth accompanies the work, condenses the material and brings the individual scenes together into a shared structure and performance.
Experience
Monika Groth has been working with theatre, film, text and young people for many years. In 2025–2026 she developed and led two funded youth theatre projects at schools, in which issues that matter in society are translated into scenic forms.
In earlier years she already led theatre courses and youth theatre projects at schools, among other places in Scotland. She also writes her own plays and combines scenic storytelling, improvisation, text development and directing in her work.

“Im selben Block” (In the Same Block) and “Dachgespräche” (Rooftop Conversations) work with a shared framing story:
It is loosely based on Faust, Gretchen and Mephisto.
The characters serve as an open frame for playing: Faust searches, doubts and asks questions; Gretchen meets him with a perspective of her own; Mephisto acts as disturbance, temptation or outside pressure.
The young people transfer this basic constellation into the present. Out of it they develop their own scenes on themes such as exclusion, the climate crisis, bullying, the digital world, prejudice, peer pressure, gender identity and self-determination.
